RIDING FOR A CURE
On the heels of record-setting Ride for Kids fundraising efforts by motorcyclists in Southern California and North Carolina this past May, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation is giving an additional $6 million grant to its research institute at Duke University, bringing total funding for the program to $12 million. Cycle World’s Roland Sands-built CBR1000RR-based ConqueRR custom (pictured) did its part this year by raising a record $84,000 through sale of raffle tickets online and at the CW International Motorcycle Shows. ConqueRR raffle winner and CW reader Steve Solberg of Hopkins, Minnesota, purchased his tickets on the Ride for Kids website (www.rideforkids.com) last January. American Honda donated the CBR and has long sponsored the RfK program.
MILWAUKEE MUSEUM
Nearly 105 years in the making, the Harley-Davidson Museum will kick open its doors on July 12. Located on 20 acres near downtown Milwaukee, the 13,000-square-foot facility offers visitors a variety of exhibits intended to communicate the history of the H-D brand, its products and related culture. More information, including admission prices, can be found at www.h-dmuseum.com.
BIKER NETWORK
Forget Facebook and MySpace, motorcyclists looking to communicate online with other American V-Twin enthusiasts now have their own social network: Hogslife. “If you’re a Harley rider, Hogslife makes it really easy to find people who share your passion,” says Jeff Snider, Hogslife C00. Users have the ability to describe themselves and their motorcycles, upload photos and videos, and write journals or blogs. For more information or to become a member, log on to www.hogslife.com or call 408/647-1236.
MADE IN USA
Alternative American sportbike manufacturing hopeful Roehr Motorcycles (www.roehrmotor cycles.com) has completed its first pre-production machine. Power comes from a supercharged, Harley-Davidson V-Rod-sourced, 1250cc liquid-cooled Twin that’s claimed to produce 180 horsepower and is mounted in a composite chrome-moly and aluminum frame. Top-shelf components are spec’d, with retail pricing (expect just under $50,000) to be determined closer to the scheduled fall launch of production.
