Ups & Downs
UP: To Steve Johnson, for winning the U.S. Nationals-arguably the most important stop on the NHRA POWERade Series tour-for the second time in four years. This past September, the 22-year veteran of the Pro Stock Motorcycle class not only topped the 16-bike field on his Snap-on Tools/WyoTech-backed Suzuki at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Claremont, Indiana, he also posted the highest speed of the meet192.03 mph. The always-animated Johnson celebrated by climbing the fence near the finish line, as is becoming tradition at nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “I thought winning the U.S. Nationals once was a dream come true, but twice? I’m overwhelmed,” he exclaimed.
DOWN: To Harley-Davidson, for excluding men from its new “We Ride” Guide for Women. The guide may be geared toward females, but the information contained in the magazine-style publication’s 45 pages is universal, running the gamut from examining the passion for riding, how to fit your motorcycle to your physique and basics such as learning how to ride. For your free copy, call 800/LUV2RIDE or visit your local H-D dealer. You can also download a copy at www. harley-davidson.com. Go ahead, fellas, don’t be scared!
UP: To Best Western, for offering its Gold Crown Club International Ride Rewards program for HarleyDavidson owners. Best Western is encouraging Harley riders to stay at its hotels by offering members 10 points for every dollar spent on qualified room rates; a second option is earning 250 airline miles per qualified stay. Ride Reward members will also automatically receive Gold Elite status.
