Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in late October as a special prototype model, the Yamaha Tesseract looks like something straight out of the movie Transformers. But it’s not just the four-wheeler’s appearance that makes it unique. It’s propelled by a hybrid powertrain that combines a liquid-cooled V-Twin engine and an electric motor. It rides on “dual-scythe” suspension that allows the vehicle to lean in corners, in a manner much like the Piaggio MP3 scooter. When the Tesseract is parked, a dualarm lock system allows the vehicle to remain upright. The idea was to create a four-wheeled vehicle that offers exceptional maneuverability in a package not much larger than a motorcycle. Sounds like the king of the carpool lane to us.
