Ups & Downs
UP: To hip-hop artist Ludacris and Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, for helping families in need. Harley and the rapper joined forces to support The Ludacris Foundation’s annual holiday party, held last December, in Atlanta, Georgia.
More than 100 children attended the party, part of the Luda Cares initiative, supporting children and families in need during the holiday season by providing food, toys and clothing. Harley-Davidson donated school bags to each child in attendance, in addition to an ’07 Fat Boy auctioned on eBay to benefit the foundation.
DOWN: To Mike Goodwin, for being found guilty 19 years after the fact. Goodwin, the man who originally brought us Supercross racing in the early 1970s, was convicted in January of ordering the 1988 killings of former business partner Mickey Thompson and his wife Trudy. A suspect from the beginning, Goodwin had lost a legal battle with Thompson for the control of Supercross. He is expected to be sentenced to life in prison.
UP: To Triumph, for figuring out a philanthropic way to move two examples of its 2300cc power-cruiser, the Rocket III, for way above suggested retail. The British bike-maker donated the custom-painted machines to the annual Sound and Speed auction in Nashville, Tennessee, where they raised a whopping $97,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The camp was founded in 2004 by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie in honor of their late son Adam to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
