MORINI MAKEOVER
Italian bike-maker Moto Morini recently rolled out its latest project, an evolution of the Corsaro 1200—the Corsaro Veloce. The look is aggressive and sharp, with the added benefits being reduced overall weight and improved chassis response. Lightweight Termignoni mufflers account for the lion’s share of the overall 13-pound weight loss, with additional savings coming from use of aluminum in the construction of various chassis parts. Claimed dry weight is 432 pounds.
Equally meaningful is an upgraded shock and revised rear-end geometry. The Sachs unit adapted to the Veloce is 16mm taller and has drastically altered damping and spring rates. This has given the bike a “nose-down” stance that was aimed at creating increased front-end weight bias for more neutral steering response.
Despite the freer-flowing mufflers, the engine remains in its original state of tune, producing 140 horsepower at 8500 rpm.
Work in that department concentrated on accurately tuning the integrated Marelli injection/ ignition system to provide the best throttle response, especially at low rpm. -Bruno de Prato
