Sidi Ceramic Scuff Pads
New life for your boots
BOOTS ARE A LOT LIKE HUMAN BEINGS: They eventually wear out, and not all at once. In the case of roadrace-style footwear, toe sliders usually get the brunt of the abuse. In most cases, these little plastic add-ons are easily replaceable. But that doesn’t slow down-or halt altogcther-the rate of wear.
Sidi’s solution? Ceramic Scuff Pads. Standard equipment on the Italian bootmaker’s bucks-up Vertigo Corsa, these are identical to the conventional molded-plastic sliders found on the standard Vertigo, Vertebra and B1, but with wear-resistant ceramic pads inlayed near the fronts and on the sides.
Fitment is as simple as extracting the Phillips-head screws that hold the standard sliders in place and substituting the ceramic versions.
In use, the ceramic pads are much less prone to wear than the surrounding plastic, which still erodes as fast as ever when it contacts pavement at speed. So don’t go dragging your feet on purpose.
In the end, though, the pads do outlast their conventional counterparts-no ifs, ands or scuffs about it. □
