MONSTER IN THE MAKING

The fire that consumed approximately one-third of the Triumph factory in Hinckley, England, more than a year ago failed to scorch at least one project in progress. Due out in 2004, the three-cylinder C20XB” will likely be the largest-displacement motorcycle in full-scale production. Displacing a whopping 2300cc, the engine will be fuel-injected and liquid-cooled, and have dual overhead camshafts and 12 valves. Triumph alleges 140 horsepower at 6500 rpm. More to the bike’s cruising intentions, there’s 150 foot-pounds of torque on tap at just 2200 rpm, with 70 ft.-lbs. at idle-equal to the peak output of a Harley-Davidson V-Rod! Top speed should be 140 mph. —Matthew Miles
