Got a toolbox drawer full of loose cable ties that always seem to find their way to the bottom, buried beneath all the combination wrenches, little round files and assorted widgets? Well, there are several ways to organize them, including wrapping them with a rubber band (which usually breaks) or cinching them together with a smaller cable tie. But here’s a slightly more creative method that allows you to take instant inventory of their size and color at a glance: Cut the locking tip off one of the long ties and slide all the others onto it. They’ll then all lay side-by-side for easy identification. If you have a lot of ties, you can put all like-sized or colored ones on separate strips. You can hang them on pegboard or store them on a shelf, or even stick them back into that toolbox drawer, knowing they’ll be much easier to find and identify when needed. Paul Dean
