Chase Harper Sport Tour H20
CW EVALUATION
Beyond the fannypack
LET’S FACE IT, WE RIDERS are the original bag people. If you use a motorcycle for anything other than ego gratification, you’re going to need a way to carry stuffeither on the bike or on your person. The latter task is where Chase Harper’s new Sport Tour H20 comes in.
This takes the basic nylon fannypack concept a step or two farther. First and most obvious are the dual canteens, each with an oversize 20-ounce capacity. We’ve used the Sport Tour everywhere from day rides to the Gobi Desert, and were always glad for the water reserves. Neoprene collars keep the plastic bottles in place on bumpy dual-sport rides.
Also handy is the main compartment’s size, a bigger-than-usual 10 x 10 x 4 inches. This is more than enough for maps, a small tool roll, tire-repair kit and extra gloves. Folded tightly, a lightweight rainsuit tucks neatly inside. A layer of closed-cell foam backs the main compartment, providing stiffening and a layer of puncture protection between the bag and the wearer’s back. Two smaller outer pockets handle incidentals such as bandannas, sunscreen, paperwork, etc. The larger of the two also happens to be the perfect size for a turkey and swiss on wheatbread.
Less bulky than a backpack, the Sport Tour H20 is a great way to tote touring essentials. This one goes on our list of favorites. □
