Trail Tech Endurance
CW EVALUATION
Moto-computer
HOW FAR HAVE YOU RIDDEN, AND AT what speed? What time is it? When was the last time you changed your oil? Trail Tech’s 18-function Endurance computer, formerly known as the Panoram, can answer these questions and more.
Packed with features, this little plastic-bodied gem is just 3½ inches long, 13/4 inches wide and weighs only a few ounces. Three glove-friendly, facemounted buttons provide access to the many functions, which include time of day, current speed, average speed, maximum speed, maintenance reminders, ride time, average ride time, elapsed time, and overall and trip odometers-all for not just one but two bikes. It’s water-resistant, too, illuminated for night riding and powered by a single watch-type battery.
Distributor Baja Designs sells the Endurance computer in model-specific kits for late-model off-road motorcycles. Handlebar mounting hardware is supplied, or you can adapt the unit to your bike’s stock odometer mount. We opted for a nifty billet-aluminum case ($50) that protects the computer in case of a crash, but adds to the time required to make battery changes and bike swaps.
Installation is simple. The instructions are easy to follow and accompanied by illustrations of the various screens. A cabled sensor mounts to the front brake caliper, and on most applications the associated magnet replaces one of the bolts that secure the rotor to the wheel. Tire circumference can be set in small increments, so the computer can be calibrated with great precision. Different settings may be chosen for different bikes, as well.
Originally conceived for bicycles but considered by many to be too big and heavy, the Endurance computer is perfect for dirtbikes. For one, it offers more features than you’d find on a highend sport-tourer, yet it’s compact and reasonably priced. The maintenance aspects make great sense, too. And for a dual-purpose conversion, where a speedometer is of real importance, you simply can’t go wrong. We’re glad the Endurance computer found a niche in the motorcycle market.
