Ups & Downs
UP: To Troy Corser, for giving good face. The factory Aprilia rider’s latest media kit, “Troy Corser: One World Title Is Not Enough,” spoofs last year’s James Bond thriller. The 1996 WSB Champion and his girlfriend Sam are featured on the cover of the DVD-style case posing 007-style. In true Bond fashion, Corser lives in Monaco-fortax purposes, of course!
DOWN: To Polaris’ computer hackers, for not being quite clear on the concept of countersteering. The company’s latest ad, an obviously doctored combination of studio and outdoor photos, shows a Victory V92C making a fast left turn. Great shot. Only problem, the bike’s front end is also cranked full left in violation of the laws of physics. Next time, guys, you might want to bone up on motorcycle dynamics. Remember: Push left, go left.
UP: To Cycle World founder Joe Parkhurst, for, well, bein’ Joe. Because he started what’s become the world’s largest and best (not that we’re biased) motorcycle magazine, the 73-year-old entrepreneur was inducted into the National Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame. “I was really honored,” says Parkhurst. “This is the first time something like that’s happened. These things don’t come along regularly.” Also among those honored at the 11th annual event were three-time 500cc roadracing World Champion Kenny Roberts, actor Peter Fonda and saddlemaker Mike Corbin. Good company.
