BMW'S ROADSTER RE-DO
BMW's R1100R IS GETting the star treatment: a mid-year facelift. Revisions to the twin-cylinder roadster include a larger, chrome-trimmed headlight and a brushed-aluminum instrument panel. The latter houses the ignition switch, handlebar lock, warning lights, a trio of toggle switches, speedometer, tachometer and an analog clock. BMW North America spokesman Rob Mitchell claims the changes are in response to criticisms over styling. "Technical and styling updates are a normal part of the model cycle," he added. "We hope owners will be pleased with the new look." A significant price reduction ac companies the changes: Sug gested retail for the `97 Boxer is $11,490, $800 less than last year. And the budget-minded R850R? It will have to wait; current-year production is already complete.
