Ups & Downs

UP: To U-Haul, for recognizing the popularity of motocross. As part of the company's America's Moving Adventure promotion, U-Haul is decorating its larger moving trucks with illustrations of various sports.

Skiers, sailors and horseback riders have all graced the cross-country moving vehicles, and now motocrossers are making an appearance, too. "Unadilla, NY, Home of World-Class Motocross Racing," reads the logo, located below two motocrossers roosting across the van. The program previously featured the United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

DOWN: To the television series "ER," for repeatedly badmouthing motorcyclists. On a recent show, a doctor was involved in a fight, and another character chastised him by saying, "Medicine is supposed to be a noble profession, not a motorcycle club." Additionally, in one of the earlier episodes, a nurse referred to motorcycles as "donorcycles."

So much for Must See TV...

UP: To Los Angeles, California, radio station KROQ, for traveling long distances in style. During the Christmas holidays, morning DJs Kevin & Bean dispatched cohorts Lightning and 300-pound Big Tad to Atlanta, Georgia, to bring back a Christmas tree for the station's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas Concert. The catch? The 5000-mile round trip was made aboard a Harley-Davidson outfitted with a sidecar. Explained Lightning, "With Tad's girth, every time I gave it gas the sidecar acted as an anchor, and every time I put on the brakes, it lunged forward. My left forearm is now stronger due to the constant compensation."
