SWEET DREAMS

One of the stars of the recent Tokyo Motor Show displaced just 49cc and had a decidedly non-current veneer. Honda’s jewel-like Dream 50 is meant as a red-and-silver homage to the famous CR110 roadracer, an eight-speed, 14,000-rpm, 50cc four-stroke Single from the 1960s. Like the original, the Dream gets double-overhead cams; unlike its ancestor, the new bike is fitted with a pair of disc brakes and is streetlegal. Honda lists the Dream 50 as an “exhibition model,” but it could reach production as a limited-edition memento of roadracing’s Golden Age. Also displayed were Sports Benley and CD50SS prototypes, styled to resemble the original Benley 125 and ’60s CB450, respectively.
