HARLEY SALES HAMMER ON

Harley-Davidson's Motorcycles and Related Products division posted substantial gains in 1993, increasing sales by 10.1 percent over 1992's figures. Division sales were $933.3 million. Motorcycle production totalled 81,696 for '93, a 5201-bike increase. H-D President and CEO Richard Teerlink said he's confident the company will produce 100,000 bikes per year by 1996.

NORTON NEWS CONTINUES

Pakie Plastino, a Seattle, Washington, developer, has purchased the rights to manufacture and distribute Norton motorcycles in the United States. Plastino says he will import a new sport bike, the Commander and the T588, all of which are pow ered by rotary engines. Plastino promises to have bikes here this summer. He adds that assembling bikes here is a long-term possibility. Rozanda Skalbania, head of Nor ton, says Plastino will have a new piston-engined bike to sell next year, a 560cc Norton International. She says the new Norton, with a retro design, should debut at October's Cologne Show. It will use a single cylinder engine manufactured by an unidentified Japanese company then modified by Norton. Skalbania adds that the engine is not in use in a cur rent English-market model.

U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell has released a set of sug gestions for riders who wish to make their views heard in Congress. In a two-page document, Camp bell, who represents Colorado and rides a Harley-Davidson, provides a number of tips about what to say and how to say it. GTS1000 IS GREEKS' TOP SCORCHER

Greece, home to Plato and other original thinkers, apparently has a group of motorcyclists who appreciate a unique approach. Readers of Greece's Moto magazine voted the Yamaha GTS1000 as the 1993 Bike of the Year. The center-hub steerer got 50 percent more votes than did the second place Ducati Monster. In third place was Triumph's Daytona.

HONDA TURBO OWNERS GET A BOOST

The newly formed CX Turbo International Owners Association was formed to bring Honda Turbo riders together, and create a means of exchanging information about the bikes. Honda produced the 500 and 650cc turbos from 1982-83.

A $25 membership fee includes four issues of On Boost, the club’s quarterly newsletter, a decal and membership card.
