ATK READYN FOR 1995 ATTACK
ATK’S 1995 LINE INcludes its first liquidcooled motorcycles, Rotax-powered 250 and 260cc two-stroke Cross-Country bikes. The 260cc version is designed for Open-class racing, which requires engines larger than 250cc.
ATK promises a dry weight of 220 pounds and a 36.8-inch seat height for the unnamed, six-speed motorcycles, dubbed “H2O Bullets” by the company’s research and development department. Rotax’s thermostat-controlled, counterbalanced engines both produce a claimed 54 rear-wheel horsepower at 8400 rpm, and have pressure-controlled exhaust valves and reed-valve intakes.
Both new models are said to run extremely cool, thanks to larger-than-normal radiators. “I got tired of going out on bikes and pouring canteen water in the radiator instead of
in myself, so we got the biggest radiators we could find,” says Ron Griewe, ATK’s
director of research and
development.
Rotax’s 52-pound engines are housed in all-new 4130 chrome-moly steel frames. There’s an all-new 4130 chrome-moly sheet-steel swingarm, as well.
Enduro riders will be able to order a lighting kit, and a motocross version,
with a 19-inch rear wheel and a smaller gas tank, could appear next year, according to ATK.
