MOTION PRO TIRE IRONS
Flat-fixin' made easier
TUBELESS TIRES HAVE LESSENED THE need for tire repair, but dirtbike riders and owners of older streetbikes can still find themselves with a flat easily enough. Fixing a puncture on the trail or by the side of a road is never easy. But this unpleasant task can be less distasteful if you have a really good set of tire irons along.
Trying to find a good set of irons can be a real problem, though. Most tire irons are big, fat, bulky and clumsy to use and to carry. Good tire irons have small, thin, nicely tapered working ends. Making such tools requires the use of premium metal and proper hardness treatments.
Motion Pro (119 Independence Dr., Menlo Park, CA 94025) ended our search for a set of efficient, highquality, portable tire irons. The firm’s 8.5-inch irons may look too dainty to be effective tire-removing devices, but trust us, these are the best we have tried. Made of chrome-vanadium steel, the irons are narrow, have ta-
pered ends that easily side between the tire and rim, and are extremely tough-they don’t bend even when levering a six-ply knobby tire from a rim.
The Pros are chrome-plated so they won’t easily rust, and they come with
a handy storage pouch that fits nicely into a fanny pack, jacket pocket or motorcycle tool-storage compartment. Motion Pro’s tire irons sell for $25 a pair at motorcycle dealers and accessory stores. □
