FOG CITY FOG SHIELD
CW EVALUATIONS
Seeing is believing
MANY ANTI-FOG PRODUCTS offer some relief from faceshield fogging, but none that we’ve tested remain consistently effective for more than a few rides. Modern World Ventures (300 Brannan Street,
#502, San Francisco, CA 94107; 415/546-0506) claims that its Fog City Fog Shield will, if properly installed and maintained, prevent fogging in virtually all temperature and humidity conditions, in addition to lasting the normal life of the faceshield.
Designed to fit most faceshields, the 10.25-inch x 3.5-inch, optically clear insert consists of a special hydrophilic film cured to a water-clear polyester sheet. This film prevents the initial formation of water droplets, says MWV, and prohibits the buildup
of condensation.
Installing the Fog Shield is as easy as following the supplied directions. After cleaning the inside of your faceshield with the furnished alcohol pad, fit the Fog Shield to the faceshield, smoothing the adhesive backing from the center of the Shield to its edges. The perimeter
adhesive holds the Shield firmly in place and does not interfere with vision.
Once installed, the Fog Shield works as claimed, completely eliminating fogging, even in the most adverse conditions. Cleaning the Fog Shield is a snap, using a soft rag and ordinary household glass cleaner. We did notice a bit of glare, especially at night, but considering the Fog Shield’s anti-fog properties, we wouldn’t consider this to be a major flaw.
After two months of daily use, the Fog City Fog Shield continues to work as claimed and shows no signs of retiring. Available directly from the manufacturer, the Fog City Fog Shield retails for $11.95, a small price to pay for a clear view of the road. E3
