DUELING MOTORCYCLE SHOWS

Planning on attending one of the wonderfully festive and interesting Foreign motorcycle shows this fall? Here’s when they happen: The Frankfurt show-Germany’s major exposition this year-takes place September 9-19; the Paris show occurs September 24-October 3; the Milan show takes place October 18-24 and the Tokyo show happens October 22-November 5. What all these shows are competing for, aside from your entry money, are the debuts of the Ducati 916,

Honda RC45, Kawasaki ZX-9 and BMW F650. Should make things interesting for footloose, travel-budget-equipped motorcycle enthusiasts with tastes for good beer and exotic foods.

BLM CLOSES THANKSGIVING B-TO-V ROUTE

You can seek an exemption to the closure order by submitting an individual written request (no group requests will be considered) to the California Desert District Manager (6221 Box Springs Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92507-0714).

WHERE TO RIDE

It’s inevitable: You ride long enough, you use up all your favorite roads and begin looking for different ones. For those in search of new curves and vistas, a publication called Road Trip USA might come in handy. A thin 26 pages in size, Road Trip contains capsules detailing 100 recommended routes over 5346 miles through 27 states, thereby making up for in information what it lacks in mass. The routes, most of which are parts of scenic byway programs, are selected for scenic, historical and recreational values, and the book lists more than 150 government sources for free maps of the areas involved. To get your copy send $8.95 to Roundabout Publications, 2773 South Parker Road, Suite 155, Aurora, CO 80014; 800/800-6727.
