Tests of two new motorcycles, interesting for their diversity were featured in this edition of Cycle World. The bikes were the Triumph 650 Saint and Bultaco’s Metralla Mk2. The Saint was being introduced to the U.S. market as a new model—although the bike had been around for a number of years serving primarily as a police bike in other countries. The Metralla Mk2, meanwhile, had just returned from the Isle of Man TT, having convincingly trounced the competition in taking the top two spots in the 250 production class-impressive results from a bike which in stock form served well as a lightweight sport touring machine.

• This issue was a race fan's delight, delivering plenty of competition coverage, including feature stories from the Muskegon Hillclimb, Ulster Grand Prix, Salinas TT, European Enduro Championships, 1967 Bonneville Speed Week, Peoria TT, San Jose Mile and Santa Fe Short Track.

• The Racing Review section-very similar to our current-day Race Watch-gave quick hits to the Black Hills Classic, Dirtdiggers GP and a return to the winner’s circle by Jimmy Nicholson-the Triumphmounted Ascot star whose trademark was a black cowboy hatback on track following a serious injury. While a few of the events and racetracks covered a quartercentury ago have since gone, a quick look at a current issue of Cycle World is reassurance that motorcycle racing is still in its golden age, with plenty more to come.
