Looking back on the life and times of the G50

FEW MOTORCYCLES HAVE MADE such an indelible mark in so little time in so many types of racing, both national and international, as the Matchless G50. In American-style roadracing and dirttrack TT, and in European GP roadracing, the G50 was a force to be reckoned with for a half-dozen years in the early Sixties. But although the Matchless came very close to winning the 500cc world championship on a couple of occasions, it never succeeded. Its mission seemed more to make the other factories work all that much harder for the honor. Nonetheless, the G50 enjoyed many individual accomplishments over the years. Here is a recollection of a few of those matchless moments.
