TWO FACES OF DAYTONA

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK IS MANY THINGS TO MANY PEOple. To the motorcycle enthusiasts who go there, it's an annual happening that marks the beginning of a new season of racing and riding. To the motorcycle industry, it's a focal point, a place to see and be seen. And to the motorcycle racer, Daytona is a test of endurance, courage and perseverance.

For any one person to say he has experienced Daytona is an exaggeration. No one individual can explore more than a small part of the much greater whole that is Bike Week. And nowhere is that more apparent than in the two stories that follow. They deal with entirely different perspectives of Daytona '85 from the individual standpoints of two racers. One saw Bike Week from the middle of the pack looking up. The other saw it from the top-and looking higher yet.
