BOOK REVIEW
DEPARTMENTS
MOTOCOURSE 1981-82
We are always glad to see people invest in the high side of the market and this book couldn’t be higher. It’s coffee-table size, with hard covers, 192 pages glossy paper and countless full color photos, all printed with no regard for expense. Beautiful work.
Within its field, the book is complete. It reports on the 1981 road racing season; all the races in all the world-class championships, from 500cc to 50cc plus sidecars. All the entrants, qualifying times, race times, complete results are all there in easy-to-read tables. Further, there are sections on various English, U.K. and U.S. road races. There are charts and photos and some specifications on the works and privateer bikes. Writing and photography are detailed and professional. (We should
say here that we have some personal involvement. Our own John Ulrich wrote the American sequences.)
The drawback, or maybe the consumer information, must be that although John wrote the U.S. portions of this book, he reported much the same material in this magazine, months ago. And while the words are different the facts, inside information, etc., are not.
Thus the book will be of interest only to those racing fans who want to know every scrap of information about road racing in Europe and England.
That will be a limited market, we suspect, and the book probably won’t be stocked by the average bookstore, but must be ordered from the U.S. distributor.
