THE EXOTIC theories and formulae applied to the design of two-cycle engine exhaust systems are enough to baffle most of us. For the first time to our knowledge, someone has put together a useful handbook for designing and building these engineering marvels, that even the simplest mechanical minds can grasp. We estimate one could easily build his own "tuned" system, using the methods and employing the easily understood formulae the author sets down.
Bacon is an associate member of the institute of mechanical engineers, motorcyclist of long standing, participant in the Isle of Man TT, and holder of more than 200 awards won by his racing machines, particularly BSA Bantams. He is an engi-
neer with the exceptional ability to describe the complex processes involved with such things as two-stroke exhaust plumbing, in a way that is easily understood and meaningful.
We will not pretend to evaluate his work from the point of detail accuracy. We, unfortunately, do not have the time to build a system following his designs. However, using the good old rule of thumb, it looks great, and sounds right, and should be worth a try.-
